Combat Patrol remains one of the smartest ways to get rolling in 40K — tight battles, easy to learn, and a handy stepping stone to a larger force. When they’re good, they’re great — but not every box is created equal. Let’s break down what’s coming and whether you should pounce, pray, or pass.
Space Wolves – Wolf Guard and Wulfen, What’s Not to Love?

The Space Wolves get one of the best Combat Patrol lineups in a while, with 75% of the box being new models only, which is a bit out of the norm. New Wolf Guard Terminators? Yes, please. Blood Claws for that reckless charge? Of course. A Wulfen pack to tear the rest apart? Naturally. If you’ve been circling the Sons of Russ, this is about as solid a core as you can get. Just be ready to paint a lot of pelts.
Black Templars – Zealot Brigade

The Templars are back at it with a box that screams “we hit things with swords.” A Crusader Squad, three Bladeguard Vets, and five Sword Brethren all under the steely gaze of the Emperor’s Champion. It’s a very direct box — you want to fight up close, you want to look like a walking cathedral while doing it, and you want to shout “No Pity! No Remorse!” across the table. Sold.
Tyranids – Scuttling and Spitting

The Tyranid Leviathan based Combat Patrol has finally been replaced, and with that comes the Assault Brood. This boxset has a great and unsettling vibe that the bugs do best. Genestealers leap from the shadows, Tyrant Guard stand ready to tank hits for your nastier beasts, and a Biovore lobs spore mines from the backfield. The Parasite of Mortrex is the highlight here — it’s equal parts disturbing and hilarious. For anyone wanting a fast, flexible bug force, this is a good pick.
Grey Knights – Maybe Don’t

Alright, cards on the table: this Grey Knights Combat Patrol? Not our favorite, and the general consensus online tends to agree. Sure, the silver boys still punch daemons in the face and look cool doing it, but we strongly suspect these models will get a refresh sooner rather than later. We’d hate for you to build half your army, then watch half of it go to legends or get replaced by shinier sculpts. We’ll stock a handful for the die-hards, but we’re not betting big on this box — and neither should you.
That’s the rundown — some hits, some ‘wait-and-sees’.
