Return of the Ancestors – New Leagues of Votann Reveals Reviewed

Wargame Portal Customer Service |

The Leagues of Votann are back, and this time, they’re not just digging in—they’re drilling through. This latest wave of reveals has given the Kin something they’ve desperately needed: identity, variety, and more reasons to roll those high-tech dice. Let’s dig deep into what’s coming for our grudge-bearing space dwarfs.

Buri Aegnirssen – A Character With Gravitas

Every faction needs a tragic hero, and Buri Aegnirssen—the Thrice-Devoured—delivers. Draped in slain Tyranid carapace and wielding the ominous glaive Bane, he adds a welcome layer of narrative grit to the Leagues. Survivability is his key strength—fall once, and there's a good chance he gets right back up. Expect Buri to show up in both competitive lists and story-driven campaigns. He's flavorful, fierce, and everything the Votann needed in a named character.

Arkanyst Evaluator – Mad Science Meets Battlefield Mayhem

With a weapon that sounds like it was cooked up in a quantum blender, the Arkanyst Evaluator is here to make the battlefield his lab. The triple fire mode transmatter inverter opens up new tactical flexibility, and we’re excited to see how this unit interacts with other support elements. It's stylish, rules-interesting, and exactly the kind of weird the Leagues benefit from.

Memnyr Strategist – Ironkin Get Their Spotlight

Finally, an Ironkin character! The Memnyr Strategist gives Votann players a cerebral edge. Its support role—especially when paired with the new Steeljacks—is a strong addition. Auto-triggering Overwatch or Heroic Interventions for free? That’s value. Combine this with Yield Point utility and you’ve got a real keystone piece for objective-focused play.

Ironkin Steeljacks – The New Frontline Core

Arguably the most imposing of the new kits, the Men of Iron, we mean, Steeljacks, bring much-needed durability and elite firepower to the table. Precision hits against characters near objectives is an elegant solution to layered enemy defenses. Whether built for melee or ranged, these units will see play across all formats. The sculpt design also reinforces the industrial might of the Votann aesthetic.

Cthonian Earthshakers – Rogue Trader Nostalgia, Reimagined

For those who’ve been in the hobby long enough to remember mole mortars from the earliest days, this is a homecoming. Functionally, these will bring indirect fire and battlefield control, especially with tremor shells slowing the enemy’s advance. Visually, they scream “retro-tech,” and that’s a great direction for the Leagues.

Kapricus – A Versatile Little Ride

The Kapricus strikes a solid balance between form and function. Whether you want a fast troop carrier or a mini-tank bristling with magna-weaponry, this kit has you covered. The design leans into the Hernkyn theme perfectly—furry coats, rugged gear, and a very dwarven sensibility reimagined for the stars. A welcome support unit that plugs a mobility hole in the range.

Codex: Leagues of Votann – A True Reset

After a rocky start in 9th Edition (we remember the “too strong” hotfix), it’s great to see the Leagues getting a full reboot. The introduction of Yield Points seeminly replacing the Judgement Tokens, we are curious to see where this goes. With five Detachments and 21 datasheets, this is a full-spectrum relaunch—one we’ll be diving deeper into as release nears.

Combat Patrol: Bane-slayer’s Bulwark – A Solid Starter

The new Combat Patrol offers a tough-as-nails core with Einhyr, Hearthguard, Thunderkyn, and more. For players looking to jump in or expand with resilience and style, this box hits all the right notes. Plus—555 transfer decals? That’s more grudges than most of us can hold.

Final Thoughts

This release is more than just new kits—it’s a redefinition. With characters like Buri and units like the Steeljacks and Earthshakers, they’re carving out a bold new identity. The vibe? Somewhere between hard sci-fi industrialism and mythic space survivalism—and it works.

We’ll cover the rules in more detail as they drop, but in the meantime, this is one of the most exciting refreshes in 10th so far. If you’ve been holding out on starting a Kin force, now might just be the time.
