Forced to lead a regiment built around despised abhumans, Castellan-Colonel Orysian Roane must overcome mistrust, fractured command structures, and open hostility before the shooting even starts.

Roane is young, brash, and accustomed to leaving the hardest decisions to others. That changes when his chain of command collapses and he is suddenly placed in charge of a ragtag auxilia made up of failures, survivors, veterans, and abhuman soldiers drawn from across the Imperium.

The regiment is divided by conflicting cultures and battlefield doctrines, watched over by a ruthless commissar, and largely abandoned by the Departmento Munitorum. As Roane struggles to impose Cadian discipline on a force that has little reason to trust him, the world around them descends into civil war.

Perfect for fans of the Astra Militarum, Cadian Shock Troops, abhumans, commissars, Imperial military fiction, and stories focused on command under pressure, this novel offers a different look at the fragile machinery holding the Imperium’s armies together.

Book Details:

An Astra Militarum novel

Follows Castellan-Colonel Orysian Roane

Features a mixed auxilia built around abhuman troops

Explores tension between Cadian doctrine and unconventional Imperial forces

Features a ruthless commissar and Departmento Munitorum neglect

Set against the backdrop of a brutal civil war

Focuses on leadership, prejudice, survival, and battlefield command

Written by Russell Zimmerman
