Kill Team has always shined brightest when the action is tight, brutal, and up close—exactly where small squads of specialists thrive. With the new Kill Team: Tomb World expansion, Games Workshop doubles down on what made Gallowdark such a hit, while layering in a distinctly Necron twist that keeps things fresh.
The setting itself is dripping with atmosphere: a tomb complex deep beneath the wastes of Somneft, filled with slumbering Necrons who won’t stay dozing for long once the Deathwatch come stomping around. The modular wall system will feel familiar to anyone who played Gallowdark, but this time the Imperial bulkheads have been swapped for eerie alien corridors. Hatchways remain the same mechanically, though the flavor of phasing portals and strange shifting walls adds new personality.
The star of the rules update has to be the teleport pad mechanic. From the second Turning Point onward, operatives can reposition across the map in a flash—whether charging, falling back, or making a clever redeployment. The ability to swap places with enemies or allies already standing on the other pad makes for cinematic plays, and it’s bound to spice up competitive layouts as well as narrative missions.

Terrain scatter also gets some love with sarcophagi, ruins, and thematic Necron details to flesh out the board. The new mission packs make clever use of all this, especially in Joint Ops where every move ramps up a threat level that awakens more Necron surprises. Between event cards like The Maze Reforms (which literally closes doors and breaches mid-game) or Stirrings of Horror (piling on more pressure as the tomb wakes), players can expect dynamic and unpredictable battles.

Best of all, the rules have been built to integrate seamlessly with the wider ecosystem. The upcoming Approved Ops 2025 Card Pack brings this Killzone in line with Gallowdark, Bheta-Decima, and Volkus, ensuring plenty of balanced layouts for organized play.
For us at the Portal, the biggest win is the return to tense, close-quarter combat. While open boards have their place, there’s nothing quite like stalking narrow corridors, watching every corner, and springing ambushes with blades and bolters at point-blank range. Kill Team thrives in that claustrophobic environment, and Tomb World looks set to recapture the magic with a fresh coat of Necron menace.
If you’ve been itching for tight, cinematic firefights—and a chance to pit Deathwatch kill teams against the soulless legions of the Necrons—this box delivers in spades.
