Games Workshop has a knack for keeping us on our toes, and the reveal of Kill Team: Blood and Zeal certainly caught us off guard. This is an expansion we weren’t really expecting, but after digging into what’s inside, we have to admit—it’s looking pretty great.
The expansion brings two brand-new kill teams to the game: the Sanctifiers, an Ecclesiarchy militia fueled by righteous zeal and armed with flame weapons, and the Goremongers, a group of Khorne-worshipping fanatics who have taken their devotion to an extreme—so extreme that they willingly replace their own legs with brutal mechanical limbs. These are two incredibly thematic teams, and we’re excited to see how they play on the tabletop.
It’s also refreshing to see Killzone Volkus being expanded upon, building off the terrain set from Kill Team: Hivestorm. But perhaps one of the biggest surprises—and highlights—of the box is the return of the Statue of St. Celestine. This imposing Imperial shrine was originally part of a much larger terrain set, and now it returns in a much more accessible and affordable kit. This alone makes Blood and Zeal a compelling option for those looking to add a stunning centrepiece to their tables.
There’s definitely some mixed chatter in the community about this release—some expected a different setting or another faction to take the spotlight. But we’re really liking the direction here. The contrast between the grim faith of the Sanctifiers and the brutal fanaticism of the Goremongers should make for some intense and thematic games.
The included Blood and Zeal Dossier is another interesting addition, with new missions, lore, and a deck of thematic cards that could add some unpredictable twists to gameplay. With all the components—kill teams, terrain, missions, and extra gameplay mechanics—this looks to be a substantial expansion that will bring some serious narrative depth to Kill Team.
Overall, Blood and Zeal may not have been on our radar, but it’s shaping up to be a solid and exciting expansion. What do you think? Are you excited for this addition to Kill Team? Let us know your thoughts!
