Review: The Emperor’s Children Prepare to Strike a Chord of Perfection

Review: The Emperor’s Children Prepare to Strike a Chord of Perfection

Mac Russell |

The battlefields of the 41st millenium are about to get even more Chaotic. Following our earlier review of Fulgrim’s striking return, this latest reveal expands on the "perfection" obsessed warriors of Slaanesh in ways that promise to delight Chaos fans.

Fulgrim, of course, remains the centerpiece of this release. His new novel, Fulgrim: The Perfect Son by Jude Reid, is a welcome (if somewhat unsurprising) addition to his 41st Millennium resurgence. While it’s odd this wasn’t highlighted during the initial announcement for LVO, it’s hard to deny how well it complements the rest of the lineup.

The Legion’s supporting cast is equally captivating. Lucius the Eternal, with his grotesquely ornate armor and sinister charisma, perfectly embodies the self-obsession that defines the Emperor’s Children. From his cursed blade to the parasitic whip etched with screaming faces, his miniature radiates equal parts menace and grandeur.

New additions like the Lords Exultant and Lords Kakophonist push the thematic boundaries further, each offering distinct flavors of Slaaneshi excess. Whether it’s the tactical genius and calculated cruelty of the Exultants or the overwhelming sonic devastation wielded by Kakophonist-led Noise Marines, these characters inject a compelling diversity into the faction’s identity.

On the battlefield, the new units build on this narrative foundation. The Flawless Blades provide a brutal homage to the Legion’s Great Crusade-era Palatine Blades, while the Infractors and Tormentors present a stark dichotomy between close-quarters dueling and precision ranged combat. The aesthetic cohesion across these units, from their exquisitely adorned weapons to the daemonic sigils woven into their armor, is impeccable.

For those eager to begin their journey into the dark perfection of Slaanesh, the Champions of Slaanesh army set offers an enticing entry point. With two units of Noise Marines, two versatile squads of Infractors/Tormentors, and a Lord Exultant, it’s a well-rounded introduction to the Emperor’s Children. Topped off with exclusive codex content and datacards, this box is both practical and collectible. Stay tuned to our newsletter for release dates and more!

Whether you’re drawn to the narrative, the models, or simply the idea of wreaking havoc in the name of perfection, the Emperor’s Children are poised to deliver in style.
