Titus Returns to Reclaim the 500 Worlds: A Review

Titus Returns to Reclaim the 500 Worlds: A Review

The galaxy burns once more, and this time even the bastion of Ultramar trembles. With the 500 Worlds: Titus reveal, Games Workshop has delivered one of the most intriguing narrative expansions we’ve seen in years — one that ties together video game canon, classic lore, and a new Necron terror unlike anything we’ve seen before.

The Return of Titus

Let’s start with the headline: Captain Demetrian Titus is back — and this time, he’s wearing his hard-earned rank with pride. Once the central figure of Space Marine and Space Marine 2, Titus now returns to the tabletop as Master of the Watch, charged with defending Ultramar’s heart while Roboute Guilliman leads the Indomitus Crusade.

His new miniature is commanding, regal, and bursting with character — the kind of model that feels like a narrative centerpiece straight out of a novel. Even better, Titus doesn’t stand alone. He’s joined by the Wardens of Ultramar, a cadre of human and Astartes advisors who add depth, diversity, and personality rarely seen in Space Marine releases. Between Ancient Gadriel’s banner, the seasoned Sergeant Metaurus, and the human officers Silva, Minervas, Vestha, and Kornelius, the set feels like a microcosm of Ultramar’s combined might — not just power armor and bolters, but also diplomacy, logistics, and psychic command.

This is exactly the sort of “humanity behind the war machine” angle the Ultramarines have needed for years.

The Shadow of Nekrosor Ammentar

On the opposite side of this blue-and-gold coin lies Nekrosor Ammentar, a name destined to haunt Necron and Imperial lore alike. Ammentar is introduced as a mythical figure — possibly the progenitor of the Destroyer curse — whose very presence drives even Necron Overlords to madness.

The concept is fantastic. A Necron who sees extermination not as madness but as divine purpose? That’s pure grimdark poetry. The model lineup accompanying Ammentar’s forces in the new 500 Worlds Battalion: Necrons box reinforces that tone: Destroyers, Plasmacytes, and Lokhusts — all driven to relentless mechanical slaughter.

And if that wasn’t enough, we’re also treated to a new C’tan Shard of the Nightbringer, arguably one of the most breathtaking miniatures Games Workshop has ever produced. Even though it leaked early, its official debut still landed with impact. The sculpt’s eerie grandeur all but guarantees it a “Miniature of the Year” nomination.

The Campaign: 500 Worlds – Titus

Lore fans and narrative gamers alike have reason to celebrate here. The 500 Worlds: Titus slipcase doesn’t just include one book — it’s a four-part narrative and campaign suite.

  • The Lore Book – Detailing the Ultramarian Reclamation and the Vespator Front. Expect lavish art, campaign chronologies, and gorgeous photography.

  • War on the Vespator Front – A full campaign system for large-scale 40K wars, with territory control mechanics and an included campaign map.

  • Dread Incursions – A Boarding Actions supplement with fresh missions and maps, expanding the action into brutal ship-to-ship assaults.

  • New Detachments – Six new rulesets covering Space Marines and Necrons, likely to shake up list-building for narrative and matched play alike.

This release looks like a true narrative event box, blending storytelling, campaign systems, and playable content in one cohesive experience — something that’s been missing since Vigilus Defiant.

Our Take

500 Worlds: Titus feels like the kind of expansion that could define this era of Warhammer 40,000’s storytelling and help bring the edition to a close. It bridges multiple media, gives Ultramar real stakes again, and introduces a Necron villain worthy of a codex cover.

If there’s one concern, it’s scale — both narrative and retail. Between Space Marine 2 hype, multiple companion books, and two large miniature waves, this is a massive release. Retailers and players alike may brace for supply issues, but if the minis and rules deliver, this will be a box worth the trouble.

Final Verdict

500 Worlds: Titus sets a new standard for Warhammer narrative releases — bold, dramatic, and beautifully grim with tie ins with other popular media in the overall narrative. Ultramar stands on the brink, and for once, it’s not clear who will survive the night.
